In the early morning hours of Thursday, March 17, 2016 Claudia "Jean" Laurie surrounded by her loving family left this earth. Although we mourn her passing comfort is found in knowing that she is no longer in pain and is with those who left before her.
Jean was born May 27, 1935 to Ralph B. and Lorene G. Brown in Leesville, Tx. She spent her early years in the Stockdale area and married H. E. Boyd. There were 3 children born from the marriage, Pat, Michael and Allison. The marriage ended and Jean traveled to California where she would catch the eye of a handsome Australian Sailor Donald Laurie. She would eventually marry him and a family would follow with Judith, Ruthie and James.
Jean lived to endure the loss of her loved ones, Husband, Donald H. Laurie; Father, Ralph B. Brown; Mother, Lorene G. Brown; Sisters, Lenora G. Brown and Ruthie L. Barr; Granddaughter, Jennifer Carr.
Jean always lived life to the fullest and never accepted the thought of growing old. She rose from the small town farm girl to a fearless woman who made sure she lived life and had no regrets. Her travels included moving to Australia for several years; numerous gambling trips to Las Vegas with Ruthie and Don Barr; Niagara Falls; Canada; Cruises to Jamaica, Cancun, Cozumel; Ohio which lead to several gambling trips; Memphis, TN which led her to Graceland; and early morning trips to Port Aransas, Texas to sit on the beach and just enjoy the sunrise.
Jean was many things to many people. She was a daughter who was always there anytime; she was a wife who always put her husband's needs first and had a welcoming home at the end of the day; she was a sister who was there to make life just a little happier and help through all the bad times, she was a loving mother who was always there at home to comfort and support her children as they grew to adulthood and perhaps her proudest accomplishment was being a Grandmother and Great Grandmother where she saw her heritage live on.
After she had completed the job of raising her children she chose to go to work and found a whole new purpose in life. As she blossomed in her work at Jackson Hewitt Tax Service in Seguin, Texas she found friends not only in her fellow workers but in the clients that she dealt with. She was Mama to some, Aunt to many and a lifelong friend to others.
Jean is survived by 6 children and their spouses: Pat Carr, Michael Boyd, Allison George, Judith VanDerHorst, Ruthie Mead and James Laurie. She is also survived by 15 Grandchildren, 13 Great-Grandchildren, and Numerous cousins, Nieces, Nephews and Friends.
The family would like to extend a special acknowledgement to her Special Friend Richard Briggs who brought Jean great joy and then also to Personal Chef Jack Myers and Nurse Lori Myers who were with Jean during her last journey of life.
There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial at Palmer Mortuary Chapel on Saturday March 26, 2016 at 2:00 pm.
The family is asking in lieu of flowers that donations be made to USO@ www.uso.org.
