Eluterio Gaytan, of Seguin, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2017, at the age of 86. He was born on February 21, 1931, in Nixon, Texas, the oldest child of Elias Gaytan and Modesta (Estrada) Gaytan.
For most of his adult life, he owned and operated a poultry distributing business from his home base in Seguin, Texas, and later Beeville, Texas, delivering poultry to grocery stores in South Texas. At the age of 55 he earned his GED (high school diploma) and a few years afterward, he started working for the Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority. After being a bus driver for eight years, he chose to live out his retirement in his adopted hometown of Seguin, with the encouragement of his sister-in-law Janie Trevino and her husband Johnny.
Eluterio, was a devout Christian who stayed active in his community parishes.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Guadalupe (Sandoval) Gaytan, his parents Elias and Modesta, and sisters, Pacita Gaytan, and Lucia Salaz.
Survivors include his three children, Arthur Gaytan, Nettie Jimenez and her husband Gilbert, and Gloria Basave; ten grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Lee Gaytan and his wife Lily, George Gaytan and his wife Oralia, Abel Gaytan, Rudy Gaytan, Ruben Gaytan, Oscar Gaytan and his spouse William, and Viola Vasquez and her husband Frank; along with and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Palmer Mortuary Chapel on Friday, March 24, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with the Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church (409 W. Krezdorn Street, Seguin, TX 78155), on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 10:00 a.m., Interment will follow at the Latin American Cemetery in Nixon, Texas.
