Gloria Alcoser Barrientez, our beloved matriarch, passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at the age of 81. She was born on August 15, 1943, in Seguin, Texas to Joaquin Flores Alcoser Sr. and Manuela Rodriguez Alcoser.
Known for her kindness and generosity, Gloria was always eager to lend a hand or offer a gift, embodying the spirit of care that so endeared her to those she met. She cherished time spent with her family and friends, finding joy in family gatherings and parties, where she loved to dance. Her natural silliness brought laughter and light to all around her, often expressing herself through playful gestures and faces that left a lasting smile on the faces of loved ones.
In the kitchen, Gloria was a remarkable cook, famed for her conchitas, enchiladas, toaster oven hot dogs, delightful Sock-It-To-Me Cake, and her legendary Spanish Rice, a dish that was always in demand along with her secret recipe. Food was not just nourishment for Gloria; it was a way through which she expressed her love for her family and friends.
Gloria loved listening to stories shared by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, engaging in meaningful conversations that bridged generations. Whether chatting in person or over the phone, she cherished these moments. Other interests of Gloria’s included watching novellas while untangling yarn and shopping. She loved to walk around stores for hours browsing every rack and shelf. Gloria found peace in nature as well, often sitting on her porch, listening to music while observing cardinals fly by and the hummingbirds at the feeders. Her love of nature extended to raising chickens, doves, and peacocks, along with her passion for growing potted plants.
Gloria was preceded in death by her father, Joaquin Flores Alcoser Sr., mother, Manuela Rodriguez Alcoser, and her sisters Mary Jimenez and Ester Andrade.
Her final days were surrounded by many family and friends. Gloria is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Pedro S. Barrientez; daughter, Diana Barrientez; son, Noel Barrientez (Terry Torres); brothers, Joaquin Alcoser Jr. (Janie), Ricardo Alcoser, and Ray Alcoser (Annie). She also leaves behind cherished sisters, Rosa Gonzales, Yzabel Alcoser (Waldo), and Margie Jimenez. Gloria's legacy continues through her grandchildren; Abigail Barrientez (Josh Villela), Amanda Barrientez (Jonathon Romans), Jayson Armstrong (Kathleen), Jeremiah George Armstrong (Dilcia Castillo), Kristina Armstrong, Thomas Hernandez (Melinda Lagunas), and Elizabeth “Chevelle” Hernandez. Additionally, her profound impact is felt through her twelve great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Gloria will forever be remembered as a shining light, whose laughter and love filled the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
