Jacqueleen Copeland

Jacqueleen Evalea Lowe Copeland went to be with the Lord on August 20, 2020, at the age of 96. She was born to Walter Lee and Mildred Merle Whittaker Lowe in Healdton, Oklahoma on August 4, 1924.

Jackie is preceded by her parents; her loving husband of fifty years, Douglas A. Copeland; brother-in-law, Jimmy D. Copeland; son-in-law, Fred L. Baker; two great grandchildren; brother and sister, Thomas and Nikki Benton.

Surviving her are her two daughters, Anita L. Trotter (Phil) of Norman, OK. and Carla J. Baker of Seguin, Texas; Dorothy Copeland of AZ, Laverne Copeland of Odessa, Texas and Don Copeland (Lucy) of Iraan; also, eight grandchildren, Belinda G. Ramsey (Danny) and Greg L. Baker (Lori) all of Seguin, Valerie I. Spoonemore (Mike), Brett T. Benton, Rob Trotter (April) of Oklahoma, Shannon Mittleman (Monty) of IL., Todd Trotter (Julia) and Marti Hester (Chad) of Oklahoma; great grandchildren, Alex M. and Tessa C. Spoonemore, Ellen, Nathan and Kyler Trotter of Oklahoma, Bridger and Bella Mittleman of IL., Ethan and Andrew Trotter and Lillian Hester of Oklahoma, Camrynne J. Baker, Gavin J., Gage S. and Garrite D. Ramsey, Jillian G. and Eli T. Baker all of Texas.

Jackie and Doug were school sweethearts and after they graduated from Maud High School, they went one semester to OK A&M (OSU). Doug joined the United States Navy on January 16, 1943, they married on November 9, 1943 and moved to Chicago. He finished his basic training and stayed to teach mechanic classes. Their first daughter, Anita Louise, was born in Chicago. He went to war just as the war ended. Jackie and Anita returned to Oklahoma.  When his enlistment ended, he came back to Oklahoma, arriving at the Navy North Base in Norman.  Jackie and Doug lived in Shawnee where their second daughter, Carla Jane, was born. Doug started a career in the oil fields, so they moved every three to four years, all in Texas.

Jackie or “Mama Perk” as all the grandchildren and great grandchildren called her, loved to read, sew, crochet and travel.  She made all her children, and on down, afghans when they were born or just for any other occasion.  Jackie and Doug traveled around the world together. Her love of travel continued even after her husband’s death, taking anyone with her that was willing to go.

Last, but certainly not least, she left college to aid in the war effort by becoming a “Rosie the Riveter” at Douglas Aircraft Company in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

The family would like to thank all of her caregivers at Argent Court and Hope Hospice, as well as Laura Long and Shirley Mays.

She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

A graveside memorial will be planned at a later date.
