John C. Ortiz, “Johnny O”, of Seguin, Texas, passed away at the age of 50, surrounded by family after a very lengthy and courageous battle with Covid Pneumonia in San Antonio, Texas on May 18, 2021. He was born on August 17, 1970 in Seguin, Texas to Arturo Gonzales and Rachel Ortiz.
John is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Consuelo and Fernando Ortiz Sr.; uncle, Fernando “Cheto” Ortiz Jr.; father, Arturo Gonzales and brother-in-law Steve Avalos.
John will be dearly missed by his wife of 31 years Jo Ann Avalos and his Princess Sierra L. Avalos; parents Rachel and Mike Medina; father and mother-in-law Natividad Jr. and Lupe Avalos; sister Rebecca Stewart; nieces Brielle Alexander and Riynne Van Buren. John also leaves behind numerous aunts; uncles; sister-n-laws; brother-n-laws; nieces; nephews; great nieces; great nephews; godchildren; cousins; many friends and co-workers.
John will be remembered for his love for life and food, his infectious laugh, beautiful smile, kindness and big heart.
John found his passion distributing beer for Glazer's Beer and Beverage (formerly SA Coors and Halo Distributing) for over 20 years, starting as a merchandiser and working his way up to a great salesman. John was a hardworking, dedicated employee. He enjoyed spending time at home, family gatherings, barbecuing, going out with friends, motorcycle rallies, road trips, family vacations and working in his yard.
A Visitation will be held on Monday, May 24, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Palmer Mortuary Chapel with the Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Services will conclude at the church.
At the request of the family, everyone attending services are asked to wear a face covering when attending services at the funeral home and the church.
