Leona Heavia Doyle

October 30, 1941 — August 15, 2024

Seguin, Texas

“We must have waltzed a million miles,” Jerry Doyle said about his life with his wife Heavia. The pair met on a blind date at San Angelo Junior College November 19, 1960. Jerry asked her to dance, and they danced every tune that night, doing the waltz and the two-step. They continued the dance and the partnership until she died August 15, in Seguin.

Leona Heavia Dickson Doyle was born in Ft. Stockton to Ralph and Geraldean Brannon Dickson October 30, 1941. She started school in Slaton but moved to McCamey for third grade and finished high school there. She went on to graduate from South West Texas State University with a bachelor’s degree in Education.

She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Buenger.

Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Jerry, and their children Jonana Doyle Roberts of Seguin and son Will Doyle (Nicole Marshall Doyle) of Pearland. She had two grandchildren, Keegan (Milo) Rodriguez and her brother Joshua (Christina) Roberts, both of Maxwell. She has two great grandchildren, Connor Rodriguez and Asher Roberts, with another one to arrive in January. Heavia is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and two sister-in-laws.

With a 30-year career in education, Heavia taught a wide variety of subjects in several communities as she followed Jerry’s career as principal and superintendent. She was always willing to take on new field of study or to make a home in a new place. The program in which she took the most pride was a recovery program in La Joya I.S.D. to help students who had dropped out get their diplomas through a flexible program designed around students’ individual needs.

After their rewarding career in Education, they created a company through which they marketed indexed annuities. Finally in 2014 they fully retired to tour the United States as full time RV’ers.

A gathering to remember Heavia’s life is being arranged and details will be shared soon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in memory of Heavia would be appreciated.
