Leroy Odell Moody Sr (Papa) passed away peacefully on October 18, 2024 at the age of 92 in Gonzales, Texas. Born on November 6, 1931, Leroy was a devoted and loving husband to his late wife JoAnn for over 60 wonderful years.
He is survived by his children, Leroy Moody Jr, Bobby Moody, Doris Bolden; Sisters, Wanda Searle and Patricia Wilkinson. Grandchildren, Charlotte Piersol husband Sean, Ronnie Dill wife Stacy, Codi Harkness husband Clint, Kristen Sorenson husband Terry, Cole Moody, Samantha Riese husband, Rick, and Jerry Bolden Jr. Great grandchildren, Shyanne Moody, Blayne Harkness, Presley Harkness, Alexa Bolden, Jordan Riese, Jerry Bolden III, Alyssa Dill, Brady Dill and Kayla Dill.
He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn Moody; parents, Walter A. Moody, Bessie T. Moody, brothers, Austin R. Moody, James E. Moody, son in law Jerry Bolden Sr and daughter, Sissy.
Leroy‘s life was marked by his unwavering commitment to his family and faith, a longtime member of the Southside Church of God in San Antonio, Texas. His faith guided him throughout his life.
Leroy was a veteran having served in the Air Force from 1949 to 1952 and was later drafted into the Army in 1953, where he served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1955. Professionally Leroy began his career in the oil fields of South and West Texas from 1955 to 1959, before establishing and leading Waste Oil Tank Service in 1959. He semi retired in 1987, but continued to contribute to the business until fully retiring in the early 2000s. Leroy‘s entrepreneurial spirit was evident in the very successful business he built and operated alongside his children.
Leroy was a man of many interests, including carpentry, westerns, history, traveling to Colorado and antique shopping. His love for transforming old items into treasures was a testament to his creative spirit. He once built an entire western town and replica of The Jersey Lilly Saloon on his back acreage. He made it into a business, including live, scripted gun fights for tourists, calling it the Wild Wild West. He was a witty, funny, loving man, that will never be forgotten.
Visitation will be held at Palmer Mortuary on Friday, November 1, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. a Celebration of Life will start at 12 p.m. and interment will follow at San Geronimo Cemetery.
His journey on earth may have ended, but his story and impact will continue
