Lucy was born in San Antonio, Texas on November 11, 1933. While growing up in Lopeno, Texas, she valued her time spent with family, especially spending time with her father working in the fields and riding shotgun while he delivered the mail for their local post office. Lucy attended The Presbyterian School for Mexican Girls (Pres-Mex) near Kingsville where she excelled in music and Bible studies through the 8th grade.
As a young woman, while in San Antonio visiting her sister, she met Forest Moore at a dance provided for service men and women while on leave. They dated and were married in November 1957. The couple lived in San Marcos while Forest attended Southwest Texas (Texas State) earning a teaching degree. They eventually had four children. Upon moving many times around the San Antonio area, they visited and loved Seguin, Texas. They settled in the Olmos area in 1979.
Lucy was a loving and faithful caregiver throughout her life. She was a homemaker for many years caring for her young family while graciously and sacrificially taking care of both her mother and mother-in-law until their deaths. A skilled seamstress, she sewed clothing for her family, embroidered, and was talented in drawing.
Lucy’s love for and faith in Christ was strong. She was confident in knowing God would provide and bless her. Her life was a testament to both. Because the Lord took care of her, she in turn took care of others helping many with much compassion. She was an active member of Elm Creek Baptist Church where she served in various roles, later joining Trinity Baptist Church Seguin serving as a Bible studies teacher and participating in New Life. She enjoyed her work at the original Seguin Walmart and then later as a cook for the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Department from which she retired. After winning a fight with cancer, she moved to Cost, Texas living with her family there for many years.
Survivors include her children, Bianca and Rex Butler of Grimes, IA, Granella Hendricks of Cost, TX, and Elfego and Jennifer Moore of Wichita, KS, a niece Lucinda Roberts of Glendale, CA and best friend Thistle Funk of Seguin. Lucy prayed for and loved her grandchildren Matthew, Heather, Krystal, Simone, Jasmine, Summer, Derrick and Trent, including her many great grandchildren.
