Maria Ordonez

Our lovely and dear mother, Rosa, passed away July 11, 2009, surrounded by family, in San Antonio, Texas. Rosa was born on April 21, 1924, in Pharr, Texas, to Esteban and Eugenia Gutierrez. She married Emilio Ordonez, on October 7, 1939. She was a wonderful and caring mother of 11 children. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Emilio, and ten children: Sylvia Butcher Dan, Ida Salazar Lupe, Elena Coffel Alan, Yolanda Lumbreras Augustine, Idolina Volz Tom, Emilio Ordonez Sue, Jose Rick Ordonez Sally, Javier Ordonez Debra, Diana O. Hernandez Joe, and Elisandro Eli Ordonez Amy. They have 28 grandchildren and 49 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Juan Gutierrez, Matilde Villarreal, and Lupe Schrenkeisen.

Rosa loved to travel, and joined her children on vacations across the United States, including trips to California, Idaho, Oregon, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, to name a few. Her most memorable trips were spending time on the Florida and Oregon coast and a trip to Hawaii. She spent many summers with family in Oregon and Idaho. She loved flowers and grew them beautifully. She attended the Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Seguin, TX, where she truly enjoyed her time with the Guadalupanas prayer group. She collected dolls, and received many from those who loved her. Rosa was a beautiful person, and fought her illness to the end, waiting until just the right amounts of flowers were ready for her in heaven. She will be remembered for her genteel kindness to all, her lovely smile, sense of humor, dedication to her husband, sisters, brother, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. We will miss you mommy but know that our Lord Jesus, thought you could have a better view from heaven to keep a close watch over us all. We will remember you and carry you in our hearts always.
