Mary Virginia Jordan Bishop Day, age 87 of Seguin entered eternal rest on January 5, 2015. Born and raised in Wauchula, Florida, she was a 40 year resident of Guadalupe County. Orphaned at age 4, she was adopted by the late Milledge and Sadie Bishop, surviving difficult times during the Great Depression through hard work and perseverance. Her family rode to town in a mule and wagon.
A proud member of the Greatest Generation, she worked at the Avon Park Bombing Range during World War II, serving meals and providing encouragement to B-17 bomber crews before their deployment overseas. She later continued her service to the country serving in the newly formed United States Air Force from 1949-1954, working at the Pentagon, Francis E Warren AFB WY, Mitchell AFB NY, and Lackland AFB TX.
Valuing education, she graduated from Wauchula High School in 1945, and from Florida Southern College with a Bachelor of Science degree.
While working in the civil service at Lackland, she met and married Thomas J Day of Seguin on June 29, 1960, later giving birth and raising two adoring sons.
Possessing a vibrant personality who easily made friends throughout her life, she travelled extensively throughout the United States and Canada, loving to camp and fish, and meeting new people who always found her most interesting and engaging. A life-long lover of animals, she was devoted to her beloved pets until the end. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and all who knew her.
She is survived by her son Joseph Thomas Day and daughter- in-law Anita Louise Albers Day of Seguin; son Charles Henry Day of Molesworth, England; grandchildren Christine Nicole Day and Robert Thomas Day, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and valued friends. She was predeceased by her husband Thomas J Day.
A memorial service honoring her life will be held at Forest Hills Baptist Church, 8251 FM 1117 at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2015, followed by a lunch. Inurnment will be held at Wauchula Cemetery, Florida on 20 or 21 January 2015.
