Otto W. Voigt passed away on February 18, 2013 at the age of 97. He was born on July 26, 1915 in Comfort, Texas to Robert A. Voigt and Johanna Stolle Voigt. He was preceded in death by his parents and 4 siblings, Hedwig, Helen, Frieda and Paul. He married Ethel Wilhelmina Cravey in 1935 and moved to San Antonio where they raised three children and he and his business partner, Elwood Nelson, opened South San Garage and Auto Parts. He moved to the family farm in McQueeney, Texas in 1961 where he kept busy raising sheep, cows, crops and grandkids after selling the business. Known for his barbeque chicken on Sundays, he spent many hours teaching grandkids to waterski and fish. While known as a man of few words but many friends, he picked up the game of bowling in 1940 and a 72 year love affair was born. He prided himself that he was awarded the oldest bowler in the Texas Ten Pin Tournament and recently celebrated his 97th birthday at Fiesta Lanes where he boasted a 94 average. When not bowling, you could catch him playing and winning a game of dominos with his friends.
He is survived by his sons, Raymond O. Voigt of San Antonio and Lawrence W. Voigt and daughterinlaw Liz of McQueeney. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Ethel, his only daughter Carol Lois Rothe and soninlaw, Paul Rothe, and daughterinlaw Charlotte Voigt. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren Terri, Trent, Steven, Cheryl, Larry, Paul and 7 great grandchildren Stephanie, Luke, Evan, Stolle, Reagan, Kaitlyn, Lilly. In lieu of flowers, Otto requested that donations be made to Kingsbury United Methodist Church, PO Box 34, Kingsbury, TX, 78638, or the charity of your choice.
