Raymond Mattfeld passed away on Monday, October 8, 2007 at the age of 94. He was born in the Laubach community in 1913 to parents Edwin Mattfeld and Betty Engler Mattfeld. Raymond is preceded in death by his wife Elaine Bendt Mattfeld, his sisters: Norma Armke, Irma Bartsch, Ella Boenig and Emily Dietert, and his son-in-law, Jerry Freed.
He is survived by his four children: Alan Mattfeld, Carol Nevins and husband Darrell, Diana Ball and husband Michael, and Stan Mattfeld and wife Carolyn. He is also survived by four granddaughters: Amanda Ball and fianc Miguel Hinojosa, Andrea Ball, Morgan Mattfeld, and Madelyn Mattfeld. He is also survived by one sister, Cora Kirmse; his special friend, Mildred Moltz; and his adopted daughter Darlene Zies.
Raymond Mattfeld served his country in the United States Army during World War II serving in the Second Engineer Special Brigade from April 1942 to November 1945 seeing service in the Southwest Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the American Legion for 62 years.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 12, 2007, at the Cross United Church of Christ, 814 North Bauer with the Reverend Jim Price presiding. Interment will follow at the Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park. Visitation was held at Palmer Mortuary from 2:00 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 11, 2007.
Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Ball, Alan Mattfeld, Stan Mattfeld, Carol Nevins, Darrell Nevins and Darlene Zies.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Guadalupe Regional Medical Center Hospice program, Cross United Church of Christ, or the charity of ones choice.
