Robert Lynn Marcrum, age 85, departed this life on Sunday, August 9, 2015. Robert was born March 4, 1930 to Robert F. Marcrum and Ivy Pearl Wiley Marcrum in La Ward, Texas. Robert was one of ten children and grew up in Austin, TX.
Robert served his country in the U.S. Navy and Air Force. He spent several years in the Navy, then reenlisted in the Air Force, but ultimately returned and retired U.S. Navy in 1973. He enjoyed telling stories of his travels abroad and of his time on the USS Saratoga. One of his favorite and last careers was as the USS Worden. He was proud to serve his country and of the opportunities he received; he displayed his pride wearing his Retired Navy cap everywhere he went.
After his military career, he also spent time working as a tug boat operator and for the State Park's Department in Washington. He enjoyed being outside, and his absolute favorite past time was fishing! Fishing is a love that he shared closely with his brothers. Aside from fishing, he loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Most of the time was spent watching the great grandkids, wondering where their energy came from, or finding a place to enjoy delicious seafood.
Robert was preceded in death by both his parents, Frank and Ivy; his wife Francis; his brothers, Bill and Wade Marcum; and sisters, Ruth Hemby, Beatrice McMullin, Dorothy West, and Gloria Bryant.
Survivors include his two sons, John David Marcrum and spouse Traci of Seguin, TX and Vernon Marcrum of Las Vegas, NV; his grandchildren Nicole Marcrum Patek and spouse Jonathan of New Braunfels, TX and their daughters, Presley and Larkin; Robin Marcrum Robles and spouse Andres of Helotes, TX and their children, Noelle and Uriah, and Ryan Marcrum of Austin, TX, and Amanda Marcrum; two brothers, Delton Marcrum of Stockdale, TX, and Luther Marcum and wife, Rita of Fulton, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Military Memorial Service will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at 2:45 p.m., to honor Robert Marcrum and time he served our country in the US NAVY and US AIR FORCE. Following the ceremony at Fort Sam, Robert's ashes will be spread at Lake Braunig.
