Roberto Garza, Sr.

October 30, 1953 — March 12, 2011

United States Navy, Retired, Master Chief, Roberto Garza, 57 of Seguin, Texas passed away on March 12, 2001, at home surrounded by family. He was born October 30, 1953 in Seguin, Texas, the son of Antonio and Soledad Garza. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1972 to 1993 aboard the USS L Y SPEAR as an Electricians Mate. During his tour of duty the Navy, he held numerous positions and assignments and reached the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer E9, and received numerous commendations and awards, including the Navy Achievement, Navy Commendation, and Navy Expeditionary medals. After he retired from the Navy, he was chief of operations at juvenile military facilities in San Marcos and Nixon, Texas.

He is survived by his daughter, Christina Garza Ponce: sons, Robert Garza, Jr. and wife Denise, and Derek Garza and wife Myra sisters, Beatrice Salazar, Julia Tobias and husband James, Mary Toni Castillo and husband Roy, Dora Luna and husband Robert, Hope Gonzales and husband Alfred, and Barbara Barrientos and husband Ysidoro brothers, Tony Garza, Jr. and wife Urania, and Albert Garza and wife Margaret grandchildren, Taylor Lynn Garza, Mikey Vidal, Tiffany Ponce, Justin Ponce, Annalise and Brooke Garza, and greatgranddaughter , Mia Ponce. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Ashley Lynn Ponce parents, Antonio and Soledad Garza brother, Joe Garza sister, Alicia Hernandez nephew, Rafael Salazar niece, Erica Marie Luna and Velia Diaz Garza, deceased mother of Christina, Robert Jr. and Derek.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2011, from 59 p.m. at Palmer Mortuary Chapel Rosary Rosary at 7 p.m. Mass will be held on Friday, March 18, 2011, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be his nephews, Rick Hernandez, Joe Angel Salazar, Roy Castillo, Jr. ,Robbie Luna, Anthony Barrientos, and A.J. Garza. Honorary pallbearers, Justin Ponce, Frank Natal, III, Christian Barrientos, Christopher Urrutia, Nathaniel Applewhite and Julian Applewhite.
