On November 15, 2024, Rufugio (Rufus) V. Chabolla went to dance among angels at the age of 96.
Born July 4, 1928 to Andrea Valdivia and Marcial Chabolla in Houston, Texas; Rufus eventually made his way to Seguin, Texas, where he spent most of his life living at 2007 Stockdale Highway. Many memories were made in that house that will stick with us for the duration of our lives.
Rufus loved to dance, socialize and shoot the breeze with his family and friends any opportunity that he had. He was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. He was clever and full of street smarts. Not one of us was ever able to “poke [his] eyes.” He was hip to the game and would see right through us. Despite all of our faults and differences, he loved us nonetheless.
Rufus will be remembered for all the stories he shared and nicknames he issued. He was highly revered and is loved by many.
His mind and spirit were sharp and he carried himself with strength and dignity all the way up to his last days, when his earthly body just couldn’t keep up. Although he is no longer with us in physical form, Rufus has now passed on to his spiritual body where he is able to remain in each of our hearts. He will be missed dearly.
Rufus is survived by his siblings Frank Chabolla and Carlotta (Betty) Garcia; his children Johnny, Linda, Roger, and Georgina (Gina); and his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great-grandchildren.
