Samuel Craig Jernigan was born on November 9, 1957, in Lawton, Oklahoma. He attended high school in San Antonio, Texas at Roosevelt High School. In 1975, Craig joined the Marines. In 1979, Craig returned home where he quickly discovered his love for truck driving and continued in this line of work until his passing. He was an owner/operator for several years and then finally found his home driving for Penske in Lockhart. He has resided in Kingsbury since 2006.
A few of Craig’s hobbies included motorcycle riding, car shows, air shows, traveling to interesting and historical places. Craig also enjoyed working on his beloved 1980 red and white Ford dually along with his 1990 Jeep Wrangler.
Craig was a fiercely loyal friend and father. He enjoyed a spirited conversation and welcomed the opportunity to banter back and forth. Craig rarely saw a stranger and appreciated visiting others and hearing about their life and beliefs. He especially enjoyed lively conversations with his boss, Steven Dugas.
He is preceded by his mother, who passed on September 19, 2019, and she welcomed him back into her arms on April 28, 2023.
He deeply loved his children, and they were the joy of his life. He is survived by his son, Kevin Jernigan; daughters, Ashley and Christen; seven grandchildren; his father, Sam Jernigan; his sisters, Nancy Holdorf, Jennifer Lucas, and Lisa Strawn; his five cats who brought him much happiness, along with other numerous family and friends.
A Visitation will be on Friday, May 12, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Funeral Service at 6:30 p.m. at Palmer Mortuary. Services will conclude in the chapel.
