Thelma West

July 12, 1952 — January 29, 2011

Thelma Jean Calvert West, 58, passed away in Austin, Texas on January 28, 2011. She was born in Seguin, Texas on July 12, 1952. She was the second of six children born to Willie and Earline Calvert. Growing up she loved attending Refuge Church of our Lord Jesus Christ where she was active in the choir and acted as church secretary. She graduated from Seguin High School and went on to attend San Antonio College. She lived in San Antonio and held administrative positions at USAA for many years. While in Houston she worshiped at Greater Houston Refuge Temple. Thelma had a very successful career as Staffing Coordinator for the Logos Company in Houston. She wed Mr. Harry West June 21, 1995 and moved to Austin in 1999. In Austin she joined Girling Home Health where she was highly regarded as their Senior Scheduling Coordinator. Thelma loved her job and worked as unto the Lord until her health just would not allow her to do so earlier this January. A dialysis patient for more than 25 years, she was a true miracle. She also enjoyed reading, cooking and watching game shows, movies, sports and Christian programs with her family. She will be dearly missed.

Those left behind to cherish her memory include her husband of 15 years, Harry West, a brother, Willie Calvert Jr., a sister Jewel Padgett and husband Kenneth, a sister Elaine Braddy, a sister Gwendolyn Owens and husband David, nieces Chena Blanchard and husband Andr, Tamekia Padgett, Ceneca Calvert, Chea Calvert, Danica Calvert, and Nia Mason, nephews Nathan Mason, Amani Moore, Willie Calvert III and wife Sabine, Donovan Owens and wife Jeannette, Christopher Owens, Devyn Padgett, motherinlaw Clara Tanner and a host of great nieces, great nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
