Willie Mertz, Sr

Willie Mertz, Sr., beloved father, brother, and friend was called home by our Lord on May 24, 2009 at the age of 78.

He was born in Seguin, Texas on May 3, 1931 to Henry Daniel Mertz and Maria Briseno Mertz and grandparents, Antonio Briseno Seferina Cantu and William Mertz Louisa Garza who later married Adrian Zapata.

He is survived by his children, John Mertz Sheila, Mary Lou Deardorff Don, Henry Mertz, Sr. Jo Ann, Sylvia Sanchez Jesse, Melinda Villareal Pete, Bertha Soria Stanley, and Willie Mertz, Jr. Petra; siblings, Evelyn Frias Amado, and Mary Jimenez Santiago, Jr.; 23 Grandchildren, 51 Great Grandchildren, 3 Great Great Grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; his sister, Elia Mertz Vega; his wife, Mary Lou Garcia Mertz; and his brother, Daniel Mertz.

Willie Mertz, Sr. was a life long member and very supportive of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and our local Kiwanis Organization, Knights of Columbus and the Seguin Rotary Club.
